Hertford Dramatic & Operatic Society

The HD&OS musical has been a huge box office attraction since the society's inception in 1919, from operettas in the early days to amateur regional premieres of "42nd Street", "Follies" and "La Cage aux Folles". In recent years audiences have enjoyed highly professional interpretations of traditional and modern musicals which included in 2015 the rip-roaring Western 'Calamity Jane' followed in 2016 by 'Legally Blonde', the Musical, based on the story of Elle Woods, a blond and ditzy sorority girl who enrols at Harvard Law School to win back her ex boyfriend Warner. Then in 2017 our most recent production was the recently released 'Made in Dagenham' which tells the true story of the 1960's Ford Dagenham strike for equal pay for all.

We are always looking for an opportunity to secure the rights to the latest releases and on 9th - 13th October 2018 at Hertford Theatre we will be performing 'Hairspray' with music by Mark Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman.

Based in 1960's Baltimore, Hairspray tells the story of dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad. Tracy auditions for a spot on ‘The Corny Collins Show’ and wins! She becomes an overnight celebrity, a trendsetter in dance, fun and fashion. Will her new status as a young dance sensation be enough to topple Corny Collin's reigning dance queen? Come along and be part of this fabulous production.

We have assembled a strong production team and will be looking for a large cast of young singers and dancers. There are parts for all ages so come along to the first get together of this fresh and exciting production to find out more. Dates for your diary:
