The HD&OS musical has been a huge box office attraction since the society's inception in 1919, from operettas in the early days to amateur regional premieres of "42nd Street", "Follies" and "La Cage aux Folles". In recent years audiences have enjoyed highly professional interpretations of traditional and modern musicals which included in 2015 the rip-roaring Western 'Calamity Jane' followed in 2016 by 'Legally Blonde', the Musical, based on the story of Elle Woods, a blond and ditzy sorority girl who enrols at Harvard Law School to win back her ex boyfriend Warner. Then in 2017 our most recent production was the recently released 'Made in Dagenham' which tells the true story of the 1960's Ford Dagenham strike for equal pay for all.
Our recent production of Hairspray in October 2018 tells the story of Tracy Turnblad who auditions for the popular 1960’s Corny Collins TV show - and wins! This toe-tapping exuberant musical explores the themes of racial prejudice, freedom of expression and the problems of being a teenager.
