Drama

The Drama sub committee produces a variety of productions and events ranging from our large scale productions at Hertford Theatre to smaller events in our Studio Theatre at Bentley House. For Hertford Theatre, we select plays with a wide public appeal. Our studio theatre is well suited to material for drama enthusiasts from our membership and their guests.

Productions in recent years have ranged from serious drama such as Shadowlands (Winner of 2013 Hertford Theatre Week) and period comedies Much Ado About Nothing and When We Are Married.

We regularly win drama awards locally at Hertford Theatre Week and at Welwyn Drama Festival and also at regional level with the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA). Although the society organises Hertford Theatre week, the adjudication is by an independent professional Adjudicator who is completely impartial and our society have to apply to be included like any other society.

We aim for variety and quality as well as having a great hobby. New members are warmly welcomed for on or off stage. Please see our membership pages.

Latest News

We are staging a rehearsed play reading in the Studio Theatre on the 16th & 17th June 2017 (more on previous nights if there is demand on tickets). We have decided on quite a departure from our usual readings and have agreed to give an opportunity to Cera Rose Pickering to stage one of her own screenplays. This is an exciting prospect for us all and as Cera is at the start of her career, we are very pleased to encourage new talent.

Our next production at Hertford Theatre is Nell Gwynn, directed by Andy Lee and playing on 16th-19th November.

Jessica Swales bawdy romp has won the 2016 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and we are lucky to have obtained the rights to perform this rich and imaginative play.

Auditions will be Wednesday 27th June and Sunday 2nd July and there is a large cast with opportunities for a range of ages – all in gorgeous period dress! See our auditions page for updates.

Please save these dates as this promises to be a fantastic production

Destination Hollywood

Directed by Cera Rose Pickering, Studio Theatre 16/17 June – for members and their guests. We are delighted to be fully cast for this rehearsed play reading – even the auditions had us laughing so the production promises to be highly entertaining!
